I’m officially declaring the beginning of the season of fear, and I’m not just talking about Halloween. Zsa Zsa Laboum was a Belgian collective from the New Beat era, and they produced this nice and spooky Acid track in 1988.

It’s the first week of September, and it’s still unbelievably warm in the world. The only positive thing about that is that you can still listen to folk and hazy pop like the one that Being Dead, a Texas-based trio, has graced us with on their latest and first full-length album, When Horses Would Run. A trip through a hazy desert filled with televisions and wild horses.

This week I stumbled upon an archive of mash-ups from 2002-2004 made by a guy known simply as Gordyboy. He was relatively famous in the UK mash-up scene at the beginning of the 2000s. His work is not on Youtube, so you’ll have to follow a nice link on Internet Archive for this one…
And it’s not any mash-up; it’s the 90’s hit “This Is Hardcore” by Pulp mixed with another hit, “Driving” by Everything But The Girl.

Keep this one for your bedtime routine, doctor’s order. This song works best just before bed, when the spell of dreamy indie pop works wonders and in a haze you can be a high schooler who just got broken up with.

Who loves the sun ? These past weeks I’ve been promoting summer songs on here and dreaming of sunny beaches and deserts but I think it’s time to get a lil’ wetter and a lil’ darker. This is a great night song, hence the name, and it’s a lil’ spooky like a ghost train

I don’t know about you but these days I only want to listen to music that feels like a friendly yet sad computer made it and I Don’t Want It Darker by the german duo AUA is exactly that. How and when did the machine get the blues ? Are you ok, computer ?

We’ve been over the basics of summer music these past weeks, surf rock, psych pop, sunny electro but we’ve not done folk yet, specifically the kind that screams road trip. To cover this summer music subgenre, this nice, kind of southern gothicy song called “The Last Exit” will be perfect. Have a safe journey but to enhance your experience, drive alone.

Here’s an angsty summer album for you, Two Hearts and No Brain is a perfect listen for those out there who are doing a “break up summer”, a “missing the ex summer” or even a “falling apart relationship summer”, whatever…you do you ! Anyway here’s the opening song.
